As the founder of Laura Mahoney Fitness, I am dedicated to the health and wellness of each and every person I work with.
I transformed my own body since the beginning of my fitness ... morejourney. I grew up overweight and unhealthy, and slowly learned the ins and outs of what it takes to be successful in maintaining a healthy lifestyle with a bunch of ups and downs along the way.
I train others with a strength based emphasis because I truly believe it transforms your body and mind. I competed in two powerlifting competitions (and won both!), and became stronger than I ever thought I would, transformed my body and physique beyond what I could have imagined, and truly became a more confident person. I want others to believe in themselves the way strength training taught me to believe in myself.
Over the course of own my pregnancy, I learned how to be more empowered than ever before and made it my mission to help others to feel the same. I believe that every pregnant and post partum woman should feel confident in their own skin, feel STRONG, and feel empowered.

It took me nearly nine months to dig myself out and support my whole mind, body and soul after my second child came into the world. My story is not a unique one. What I will say is ... morethat I came out on the other side.
I see you working mom.
I offer 1-1 coaching and group programming for working moms with young children. I am a mom of 3, Emma (6), Zoe (3) and my newest addition Alexander (4 months). Prior to my lay off, I was on the hamster wheel and went through a very difficult postpartum period. I was extremely stressed, anxious and not living in alignment or the best version of myself. I thought if I kept working harder, was more productive and kept checking things off the list, I would somehow get better. It led to the opposite. Burnout and hitting rock bottom. My goal is to provide more foundational support systems so you can tackle each step of motherhood with a bit more grace, self compassion and open heart. It’s like having a guided night light and mom mentor as you slog through the sleep deprivation periods.
My services are unique in that I am using my first hand experience as a young working parent to support you with grounded support, coordinated resources (when you need it) and empathy as you welcome your baby into the world and grow your family. You will meet the moment where you are and find your next step in a way that is authentic to you.
It’s time to learn a new way. You are a working mom. You are so much more. Let’s create the motherhood journey that nurtures and supports the best version of you. The one who lights you up, is resilient, and shows up authentically everyday.
Let this be the Motherhood invitation that helps you grow and thrive, I look forward to meeting you!

Matrescence is the process of becoming a mother. It consists of the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual changes that happen as a result of embarking on the motherhood journey. A period of intense transition, matrescence is much like adolescence. It is a time period of hormonal changes and identity shifts. The pace can be unpredictable and it can be an exhilarating (and confusing) time.
However, the adolescent time period ends. The evolution of identity as a mother is an ongoing process. It is always changing, as our children develop and grow. An infant and a teen do not need the same “mother” because they have different needs.
Throughout each of the stages, a mother needs to adapt. Her identity as a mother is based in 4 core areas of life: her concept of self, her own health, her relationships, and her environment. If a woman is not supported in all of these areas, it can negatively impact her maternal identity.
Moms are the driving force behind meeting the needs of families, and deserve to be supported as they navigate the changes within themselves throughout motherhood. When mothers are supported, families thrive!

Movement is a metaphor for life. The way we move in our bodies = the way we live in our bodies. As a movement professional for over 20 years, I see firsthand that how we engage with ... moreour bodies affects our relationship with our minds, with our partners, friends, children, and colleagues. I also see how we often choose intensity and so-called "quick fixes" over sustainable practices that can nourish us for years to come. I know this, because I was this.
Through practical approaches to yoga and the equally ancient practice of Ayurveda, I offer perinatal services and mentorships for mothers that move you from feeling overwhelmed and overburdened to deeply nourished, aligned, calm, and with a reclaimed sense of vitality. I focus on empowering new moms to connect to and support their bodies during pregnancy and postpartum. Pregnancy, childbirth, and caring for a new baby come with major physical and ... moreemotional changes, but we are often given very little guidance on how to take care of ourselves during this time. By learning more about the core, pelvic floor, and body mechanics in pregnancy and when taking care of baby, we can become experts in our own care and learn how to better support ourselves. As a licensed occupational therapist I also have training in maternal mental health and support new moms in learning how to adapt and become confident in the life changing transition of becoming a parent.
After previously working in pediatrics, I became passionate about women's health and pelvic floor rehabilitation through my own personal experience around the birth of my daughter, an unplanned cesarean, and no guidance on how to safely return to physical activity. I am trained in pelvic floor rehabilitation, pregnancy and postpartum corrective exercise, and am also a registered yoga teacher that teaches pre/ postnatal yoga.

THURSDAY'S, 11am (in person at our studio) - a note from Alison - My husband and I welcomed baby Jude into our world this past June (2021) and it feels like it has been both a lifetime ... moreand a blink of the eye. This new Mama chapter has been a wild ride...trying to navigate all things baby, body, relationships, work, etc. While it certainly "takes a village," it is often very isolating.
As I've tried to navigate my own journey back into movement, I’ve felt a natural urge to help other Mama's get their groove back. This is hard stuff and I'm right there with ya! Postpartum movement is a difficult road to travel. Often, new Mom's are left feeling uncomfortable, full of self-doubt and unsure of what is “safe” for their bodies. You're not alone and I'm here to help. Postpartum movement is SO important and can help foster better sleep habits, more energy throughout the day, clearer focus and less stress. Separate from movement, I also just love the connection we immediately have as fellow Mama’s…it’s an instant bond over something we have so very much in common.
A little bit about my fitness journey...I became a lover of barre-style fitness back in 2014 which led me to finding a new passion and new career. In four short years, I went from a Barre student to a Barre Instructor (while working full time in Corporate Marketing), ultimately, to leaving my stable career and opening up my dream studio, Haven Fitness, in 2018. I hold certifications for Group Fitness and Pre-Post Natal Fitness through ACE.
With years of fitness experience, as well as my own Mothering journey, I hope you can join us as we MINGLE and MOVE together.
xoxo, Alison
